The Externals Chapter Eighteen

From the far end of the food shed, Khadijat saw Janet speaking with Johakim so her focus shifted from the conversation we were having. More than anything else, Khadijat would have loved to confront Janet at that time, but I didn't allow her to do that since she had no evidence to prove there was a relationship going on between them. I wanted us to end the week peacefully so we would have enough energy to prepare for our upcoming midterm test. It was my tradition to observe a fast on days I had tests or exams so I didn't cook the following Monday, to avoid getting tempted. Once I made sure the materials I needed to write tests for the three subjects on my timetable were in my brown school bag, I wore my black moccasin shoes on my not-so-white socks and headed for the second route I took to school every weekday. Since I studied my books overnight, I was confident about writing something meaningful in my scripts. On my way to school, I met an angry Omma. She was angry at Master ...

The Externals - Chapter Seventeen

In my neighborhood, it was customary for schools to start a program an hour past the time stipulated in their invitation letter but that wasn't the case here. Barely ten minutes after we arrived at the stadium, the event kicked off with an opening prayer by the proprietress of the school we were competing against, Kenbol Group Of Schools. T hereafter, she officially welcomed everyone to the occasion and handed over the microphone to the principal. Every student from my school couldn't stop staring at him because he was so different from ours. His expensive sportswear looked good on him. Even while watching him from afar, I could still see his nice haircut and traces of his white teeth. My nose could even sniff his strong cologne! Lol... The head boy took over the stage as the principal left for the VIP table. He had similar features with the principal but was shorter. He also had a pink lip that every female student in my school would die for and hid fair skin was withou...

The Externals - Chapter Sixteen

Before his eyes could get the chance to drill a hole in my face, I asked for his mom. In response, he told me she was dressing up in the master's bedroom and offered to let me sit in their living room and wait for her but I turned him down. Soon, the woman came out to attend to me. She was willing to help me get what I wanted because Omma was her good friend and companion. I thanked her for that, gave her the money for the sportswear then turned to leave. By the time I got back to the field, Aza and Joe were already racing against themselves. I thought the former was going to win because he was taller than him. Unfortunately, he didn't make my desires come true. I was surprised that the latter could make it to the finishing line before him. Even though the distance between the duo wasn't much, I still teased Aza about losing a game to a junior. Each time that happened, he would tell me that it only happened because he was distracted by Jess who was about to engage in a ...

The Externals - Chapter Fifteen

"We all have our bad habits, don't we?" She blushed. "Yh", I sighed and thought of a way to make our conversation lengthy. "So what are your good habits". "Dancing is one of those. My sister taught me how to do it", She showed me some cool dance moves. "That's cool", I was jealous of her because my sisters were never available to teach me anything. "I'm also thinking of creating a cheer group for our athletes", She was excited. A cheer group in GMC? I wasn't so sure about that but I couldn't discourage her either. I followed her to Master Gbenga's office to tell him about it when they returned from the field and he agreed. Immediately, she brought out a piece of paper and started writing out the names of the junior students who were interested in joining her team. I advised her not to have too many people on her team so she'll be able to monitor their performances and she agreed with me. But so...

The Externals - Chapter Fourteen

There was no way I could ignore what Janet said so I pondered on it as I walked home after school . Truth be told, she was the only person I considered taking her advice among my classmates. J anet's personality encouraged me to follow her advice. She was not only beautiful. She was cool, calm, respectful, and humble. She didn't fancy looking down on anyone. So when I was done eating snacks for lunch at home, I brought out my finance book from my reading table and started adjusting my budget for the new month to gather enough money to get Jess a new sportswear so she'll be able to participate in the competition. Apart from being a great opportunity for her to go further in her sports career, it was an opportunity for my class to do something great for the school.  I knew if Jess participated in the competition, there was a high chance of us winning and the credit will not go to her only. It'll be for the entire class. A fter several calculations, I found out it wasn...

The Externals - Chapter Thirteen

During lunch, Master Gbenga told a junior student to call me from my classroom while I was eating boiled potatoes with fried eggs delightfully. I thought he was going to tell me my lips were in no position to eat having failed his test, but all he did was beg me to help Janet prepare for her English test since I was very good at it. Unfortunately, I forgot to do that because another teacher also begged me to help her watch over SS1 students while writing their because I was free and she trusted me my unbiased mind not to allow any of them practice any form of test malpractice and I promised to make her proud. H owever, nothing of such happened. The students didn't respect me because I wasn't as pretty as Halima or Janet. They bluntly told me they would never listen to me until I had a plastic surgery. Rather than ignore everything, I allowed their words to get to me and it was no good for me. "Lily, are you okay?" Janet noticed I got lost in thought while teaching ...

The Externals - Chapter Twelve

Like everyone other person in the hall did, I admired Halima as she stepped into the hall with my costumes on to play the role of Queen Esther in the Bible. Obviously, the drama they acted was centered on pride - How Queen Vashti lost her position because of it. It was interesting but surprisingly didn't get the audience attention like the presentation Aza and I did. Admiring Halima wasn't something that was so pleasing to me, but I just had to. Her high forehead, full lips and enchanting eyeballs made her standout among others in our school. I would have loved to make fun of her because she had small boobs and a flat butt but there was no point in doing so when the boy I loved was head over heels for her. On the last day of our fasting and prayer programme, it was mandatory for the every student and staff of GMC to move around the school's building seven times. While doing that, we would sing the "Wall of Jericho" song. During this period, I used to be scared t...
