The Externals Reloaded - Chapter TwentyOne
Happy new year people😁🥰
Scitist didn't punish Lily and Quinn for the position he met them. He only advised them to take things slowly which was another embarrasing moment for them considering the fact that they had nothing going on. Fortunately, what happened didn't stop him from commending their efforts which led to the improvement of their classmates' performance in Biology and Chemistry. Still, he implored them to put in more work since JAMB and WAEC are around the corner.
As days went by and Quinn kept on creating new memories with Lily, he kept realizing how much she meant to him. Becoming closer to her alsumade him feel her pains more and influenced his decision to start a campaign with the hope of influencing the minister of education to implement programmes geared towards making the country's educational system better. Before that, he changed his mind about doing nothing concerning the feud between the main and external students, for her sake as well.
For his plans to be successful, Quinn knew he needed support so he barged into Mary and Martha for a meeting on a Saturday evening.
"Hey, how dare you barge in here!" Mary challenged him as usual.
"The door was open so why do I need to knock?" Quinn rather gave an insignificant excuse for his action than apologize. Although, he deliberately avoided insulting her since he needed her help.
"Calm down, you two", said Martha who was excited that Quinn came to meet them on his own.
"You better leave this room now or you will go back to your country with a red face", Mary ignored her twin's contribution and reached for the mosquito repellent near their bed.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have entered without knocking. But I wasn't interested in seeing anything anyway", Quinn quickly admitted his fault as Mary brought the container close to his face.
"So you know how to say sorry", Mary hissed and returned the container where she took it.
"Should we play wort or snake and ladder?" Martha thought Quinn came for recreation.
"I came here for a serious issue", Quinn's response gained the attention of even Mary who had always seen him as a joker.
For the very first time, Mary agreed with Quinn on something and resolved to help achieve his goals however she can. Martha did nothing less. Quinn told them he planned on resolving the feud through a sleepover because he was sure most of their mates would want to be there since he was the one hosting it. The twins felt his plan was good but were worried about their mom approving it. In fact, they left Quinn to seek her approval all by himself to avoid getting in trouble.
"Sup, mama. How you doing?" Quinn told Asake after lunch the following day.
"I'm fine, my son", she smiled because of the way he addressed her. "Hope you enjoyed today's service and the asaro(porridge) I made for lunch?"
"Yeah, I really enjoyed it. I'm even going to get more soon. Thank you ma", He laid more emphasis on enjoying the meal to make himself endearing to her more.
"I'm happy you liked it. Is there any other thing you want", Her smile intensified.
"Actually, I'd like it if my classmates can come over here for a sleepover. There's a feud going on and this is the only way I can resolve it", he explained and expected her to explode over his request.
"You know the way we do things here is different. I don't want wahala from any parent", she replied calmly.
"You don't need to worry. I promise you they'll be well behaved. You know I'm not a bad child", he backed his words with a sober look.
She sighed before responding, "Fine but you must monitor them oo. I don't want any wahala".
"I won't disappoint you mama", An excited Quinn hugged her and even kissed her forehead. Asake was surprised because she had never seen him that excited and also happy for being able to put a smile on his face.
Although excited about the sleepover, the twins were jealous Quinn could get their mom to do something they couldn't. He also notified Martin who offered to sponsor the event because he was glad his best friend was having fun. On Monday, Lily was the first person he invited after assembly because he couldn't wait till lunch then he made the announcement in their classroom before the time keeper rang the final bell. The boys would have ignored the sleepover on a normal day but they wouldn't dare since it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be with their crush all night long before they graduate.
Lily didn't want to disappoint Quinn yet she was scared to leave her dad alone at the hospital and getting a pajamas gift from him made things more difficult. The day after he invited her, she asked him what could possibly happen if she's unable to attend and his response was that he would cancel it. She would have rejected his offer when he initially invited her but it was hard to do so and canceling it will upset their classmates especially if they find out it's because of her. They will never forgive her for the rest of their lives. With the situation at hand, Lily had to confide in Nurse Zara who promised to take care of her dad in her absence like she does when she's at school. Still, she felt like a betrayal.
For the sleepover, the boys got new outfits to impress their crushes. Ironically, most of them dressed up to impress Quinn who was worried about Lily who hadn't arrived at the stipulated time and her phone was switched off.
"Are you just going to stand here and wait for her all night? Have you forgotten there are people waiting inside for you?" It was Mary who came for him.
"I know but everyone has to be here for this thing to work..." He gave an excuse to make her support him.
"Well, Mr. Americana, majority carries the vote here", Mary responded despite knowing he's from a democratic country as well.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Quinn couldn't reason properly because his mind was clouded with thoughts of Lily's safety.
"If I count one to ten and you don't follow me, we will start the party without you!" Mary threatened.
Mary counted one to ten like she promised but Lily still didn't show up. Okay, it was after she moved a few inches that she walked in. Immediately, Quinn met her halfway as he was eager to know what happened. In response to his demand, Lily told the truth about how she was having doubts due to her dad's condition. This made him realize it was wrong of him not to consider that and he apologized severally though she told him it was no fault of his the first time. Then, she asked that they forget what happened and make the most of the night to avoid ruining things for him because of her problems.
"I'm really grateful y'all honored my invitation. My first reason for hosting this party is to appreciate you all for making my stay in Nigeria worthwhile", His classmates yelled excitedly.
Quinn continued his speech after they became calm, "The second reason is to put an end to the feud between us".
Their happy faces changed into angry ones.
"How can you tell us to accept ourselves as equals to these riff-raffs! I told you guys this hangout will be thrash but you wouldn't listen to me!" Dare was the first to oppose his suggestion.
"Anyone can be a riff-raff, Dare. Just be grateful you have rich parents. You have no idea what these people go through", Mary spoke while her twin kept praying she doesn't say anything that will incite violence. It was a miracle she didn't say Dare specifically can be a riff-raff.
"Come on, guys. How can I foreigner even be the one to resolve our feud? It's a slap on our face already", Kenny's contribution surprised his mates.
In the long run, both sides decided to try tolerating each other more, in which they started with avoid any form of violent display or insult during the sleepover. Asides resolving their issue, Lily also told them about his campaign plans, which most of them considered a good plan. Only few cared less about the academic situation of the country while others were scared of being apprehended by law enforcement officers even though Quinn assured them nothing of such would happen. Despite needing more people to help with the campaign, he had to let the matter rest for the time being so they can enjoy themselves.
The first order of the day was changing to night wears to fit the party's theme. While the girls used the twins' room, the guys went to Quinn's. Lily wore the pajamas he gave her which was surprisingly a matching set so their classmates teased them about it. As much as Quinn tried to explain that friends wear matching pajamas all the time, they didn't listen to him. After everyone was done dressing up, they took pictures. Some girls even went as far as doing slight makeup to look good for Quinn. Once everyone was satisfied with the number and quality of pictures taken, they started the first game which was titled, "partner's pizza". As Quinn explained the game involved answering a question and picking a slice of pizza for getting the correct answer.
"I'll go for number one", Omma asked to play first. She was confident about winning, having gone through her economics past question the previous day.
Quinn read out the question, "A review of occupational distribution of population from time to time helps us to know the
A. rate of which the population grows
B. number of people that makes up the labour force
C. efficiency of the working population
D. industries which are becoming less important
E. number of people that are bot employed"
"The correct answer is B", she answered confidently.
"Are you sure that's the right answer?" Quinn asked her one more time.
"Yes. I'm very sure", Omma shook her head affirmatively.
"Well, I'm sad to inform you that..." Quinn began.
"Enough with the serere... let's move on", Omma said to avoid further embarrassment.
"You actually got the answer correctly", Quinn completed his statement.
"Yes!" Omma jumped excitedly and reached for the pizza box.
"You can't touch that!" Quinn's statement made Omma stop reaching for the square box.
"Why?" Omma folded her arm. She was prepared to fight for her right, knowing fully well that her mates will support her.
"Your partner will win the reward for any turn you win and vice versa", Quinn explained.
"What!" Quinn got the reaction he expected from everyone.
Quinn had actually folded their names and asked each of them to pick. Only that they didn't know that was going to be the outcomr. Following the rule, Dare went for the seal of the pizza box then tore it off, "It's an honor to be the first to taste this triangle of deliciousness".
"If them born you well, no win my pizza back. You will go to Debonairs this night", Omma warned.
"Dare is intelligent so you have nothing to worry about", Fatty acid defended him.
"Oshey my dear", Dare hit her knuckles.
"You're next Dare", Quinn continued..
"Hmm... question five", He thought for a few seconds before making up his mind.
Quinn read out the question, "A normal demand curve is
A. Is concave to the point of origin
B. Is convex to the point of origin
C. Is parallel to X axis
D. Is parallel to Y axis
E. Slopes upwards from left to right
"A is the right answer", Dare replied.
"Are you sure that's the right answer?" Quinn asked him again to confirm.
Dare hastily gave Quinn his final answer, "Yes"
"I'm happy to inform you that you got the answer wrong. It's B", Quinn replied him.
